Connecting Metatude to the world

These pages provide info on how to connect the Metatude software to various different databases and directories.

At this moment, the folowing databases are supported:

  • Microsoft Access
  • Microsoft SQL server
  • DB2
  • Oracle
  • PostgreSQL
The following directoy servers are supported:
  • MS Windows 2000 server and Exchange 2000 (Active Directory)
  • MS Exchange server 5.5 (for use with Windows NT user base)
  • Lotus Domino server
  • Novell eDirectory
The database and directory connections for retrieving stakeholder information can be made from the Metatude Project Manager, in the 'Dir servers' tab. Only Metatude administrators can create connections to a database or directory server. When installing the Metatude Dialogue server a database connection has to be made also. The procedure for this is the same as in the Project Manager.

Connecting to LDAP capable servers
A lot of servers (including Windows NT/2000, Novell and Lotus) include an LDAP service. Here you can learn how to connect the Metatude software to these LDAP capable servers.

Create an ODBC connection using MS Windows
The section about ODBC describes how to set up a connection using ODBC on a Windows based operating system. You can use ODBC to connect to various databases, including Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL server and IBM's DB2 database.

JDBC Connections
The page about JDBC connections describes how to connect to a database using a JDBC driver. You can use the JDBC drivers that came with the Metatude suite, or you can use your own drivers that came with your database. Please note that only JDBC drivers that shipped with the Metatude suite are supported.
Right now the Metatude software uses a (type 4) JDBC driver to connect to PostgreSQL and Oracle databases. Recently Microsoft released a free type 4 JDBC driver for MS SQL server 2000. You can use this driver to connect to a MS SQL server database from Linux. Please read the part about JDBC connections to learn more.
